Oracle on the Amazon Cloud
The Amazon Cloud is a public cloud that offers Oracle Databases and Applications and adheres to Oracles
licensing and support model meaning that any issues arising can be dealt with and communicated to either Amazon or
Oracle.
Machine Image Selection
The Service is based upon the Oracle Virtual Machine (OVM) Platform and can operate either a 32 bit or 64 Bit
Linux or Windows environment on an On Demand, 1 or 3 Year Reserved instance.

Storage
Storage for Amazon comes in 2 flavours either s3 Simple Storage Service or Elastic block Storage. For Cloud
Based Oracle environments it is recommended to use EBS.

There are a number of machine images to chosse from but these are the ones to focus on.

Licensing
Amazon operate 2 models for Licnesing Oracle of the Amazon Cloud.
Option 1
Bring Your Own Licence (BYOL) for Standard Edition 1 or Standard Edition or Enterprise Edition
Option 2
On Demand Purchase and Use of Standard Edition 1 on a pay as you use metric via the RDS - Relational Database Service
Metrics
The following licensing metrics apply to Oracle of Amazon: 1 Physical Core = 1 Virtual Core
